The records of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, who settled east of the Jordan, are detailed, noting their defeat and exile by the Assyrians for their unfaithfulness. The tribe of Levi is given a similarly detailed and lengthy genealogy, identifying the lines of the high priests descended from Aaron, the families of Gershom, Kohath, and Merari, and the musicians appointed by David.
