- 1Brothers, I couldn't speak to you as spiritual people, but as worldly, like infants in Christ.
- 2I fed you with milk, not with solid food, because until now you were not able to bear it, and even now you are still not able.
- 3You are still carnal. For as long as there is jealousy, fighting, and division among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere humans?
- 4When one of you says, 'I follow Paul,' and another says, 'I follow Apollos,' aren't you being worldly?
- 5Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos? They are servants through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one.
- 6I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God is the one who made it grow.
- 7So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but it is God who gives the growth.
- 8The one who plants and the one who waters are one, and each will receive their own reward according to their own work.
- 9We are fellow workers serving God. You are God's field, God's building.
- 10By the grace God gave me, I laid a foundation like a skilled master builder, and someone else is building on it. But everyone who builds on it should be very careful how they build.
- 11No one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
- 12Now someone might build on that foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw.
- 13Everyone's work will be revealed, for the day will make it known. It will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person's work.
- 14If the work that someone has built remains, that person will receive a reward.
- 15If anyone's work is burned, they will suffer loss, but they themselves will be saved, yet only as through fire.
- 16Don't you realize that you are God's temple and that the Spirit of God lives in you?
- 17If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy them. Because God's temple is holy — and that temple is you.
- 18Don't fool yourselves. If any of you think you're wise by this world's standards, you need to become a "fool" so you can become truly wise.
- 19The wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As Scripture says, "He catches the wise in their own cleverness."
- 20And again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are worthless."
- 21Therefore, no one should boast in people. For all things are yours;
- 22Paul, Apollos, Cephas, the world, life, death, the present, the future — it's all yours.
- 23And you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.
