- 1This is the third time I am coming to you. Every word must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.
- 2I already warned you during my second visit, and now I'm warning you again while I'm away: when I come back, I will not spare those who sinned before or anyone else who is sinning.
- 3Since you seek proof that Christ is speaking through me, who is not weak toward you, but is powerful among you.
- 4Yes, he was crucified in weakness, but he lives by the power of God. In the same way, we share in his weakness, but by God's power we will live with him as we deal with you.
- 5Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test your own selves. Don't you know that Jesus Christ is in you, unless you are reprobates?
- 6But I trust that you will realize we are not reprobates.
- 7I pray to God that you do no evil; not so we appear approved, but that you do what is honest, even if we seem like reprobates.
- 8We can't do anything against the truth — only for it.
- 9We are glad when we are weak and you are strong, and we also wish for your perfection.
- 10That's why I'm writing all this while I'm still away — so that when I arrive, I won't have to be harsh with you. The Lord gave me authority to build you up, not to tear you down.
- 11Finally, brothers and sisters, farewell. Be perfect, be comforted, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.
- 12Greet one another with a holy kiss.
- 13All the saints greet you.
- 14May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with every one of you. Amen.
