  1. 1Look at my servant, whom I support; my chosen one, in whom my soul delights. I have put my Spirit on him, and he will bring judgment to the Gentiles.
  2. 2He won't shout or raise his voice or make himself heard in the streets.
  3. 3He will not break a bruised reed, and he will not put out a smoldering wick. He will bring forth justice in truth.
  4. 4He will not fail or be discouraged until he has established judgment on the earth, and the islands will wait for his law.
  5. 5This is what God the LORD says — the one who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and everything that grows from it, who gives breath to its people and spirit to everyone who walks on it:
  6. 6I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness and will hold your hand. I will keep you and make you a covenant for the people, a light for the Gentiles.
  7. 7to open the eyes of the blind, to free prisoners from the dungeon, and to release those sitting in darkness from their prison cells.
  8. 8I am the LORD; that is my name. I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to carved idols.
  9. 9Look — the things I predicted before have all come true, and now I'm announcing new things. I'm telling you about them before they even begin to happen."
  10. 10Sing a new song to the LORD! Let his praise ring out from the ends of the earth — from those who sail the seas and everything in them, from the islands and everyone who lives there.
  11. 11Let the wilderness and its towns raise their voices! Let the villages where Kedar lives shout for joy! Let the people of Sela sing out and cry from the mountaintops!
  12. 12Let them give glory to the LORD and declare his praise across the islands.
  13. 13The LORD will go forth like a mighty man; he will stir up jealousy like a warrior. He will cry out, yes, roar; he will triumph over his enemies.
  14. 14I have kept silent for a long time; I have been still and held myself back. But now I will cry out like a woman in labor; I will destroy and devour at once.
  15. 15I will lay waste to mountains and hills and dry up every plant growing on them. I will turn rivers into dry land and drain every pool.
  16. 16I will lead the blind along a way they do not know; I will guide them on paths they have not known. I will turn darkness into light before them and make crooked things straight. These are the things I will do for them, and I will not abandon them.
  17. 17But those who trust in carved idols, who say to their metal images, 'You are our gods' — they will be driven back in utter shame."
  18. 18"Listen, you who are deaf! Open your eyes, you who are blind, so that you can see!
  19. 19Who is blind, but my servant? Or deaf, like the messenger I send? Who is as blind as the one who is complete, and as blind as the LORD's servant?
  20. 20You've seen so many things, but you don't pay attention. Your ears are wide open, but you don't listen."
  21. 21The LORD is pleased for the sake of His righteousness; He will magnify the law and make it honorable.
  22. 22But instead, this is a people who have been robbed and plundered. They are all trapped in pits and locked away in prisons. They've become easy prey with no one to rescue them, carried off as plunder with no one demanding, "Give them back!"
  23. 23Who among you will pay attention to this? Who will listen and hear for the future?
  24. 24Who handed Jacob over to be plundered? Who gave Israel to the looters? Wasn't it the LORD — the one we sinned against? They refused to follow his ways, and they disobeyed his law.
  25. 25So he poured out the heat of his anger on them and unleashed the violence of war against them. It set them on fire from every side, but they didn't understand. It burned them, but they still didn't take it to heart."
