  1. 1I am sought by those who did not ask for me; I am found by those who did not seek me. I said, 'Here I am, here I am,' to a nation that was not called by my name.
  2. 2All day long I stretched out my hands to a rebellious people who walk down a path that is not good, following their own thoughts.
  3. 3They are people who constantly provoke me to my face, offering sacrifices in gardens and burning incense on altars of brick.
  4. 4They remain among the graves and lodge in the monuments. They eat pig's flesh, and their pots are full of broth made from abominable things.
  5. 5They say to others, 'Keep your distance—don't come near me, because I'm holier than you.' These people are like smoke in my nostrils, a fire that burns all day long.
  6. 6Look — it's all written down in front of me. I won't stay silent. I will pay them back, even pay them back into their bosom.
  7. 7I will repay them for their own sins and the sins of their ancestors together," says the LORD. "They burned incense on the mountains and blasphemed me on the hills. So I will measure their former deeds into their bosom."
  8. 8The LORD says, "When new wine is found in a cluster of grapes, someone says, 'Don't destroy it — there's still something good in it.' That's what I'll do for the sake of my servants. I won't destroy them all.
  9. 9I will bring descendants from Jacob and from Judah people who will inherit my mountains. My chosen ones will possess the land, and my servants will live there.
  10. 10Sharon will become pastureland for flocks, and the valley of Achor a resting place for herds — all for my people who have sought me.
  11. 11But you are those who forsake the LORD, who forget my holy mountain, who prepare a table for that troop, and who furnish the drink offering to that number.
  12. 12I will destine you for the sword, and every one of you will bow down to be slaughtered. Because when I called, you didn't answer; when I spoke, you didn't listen. Instead, you did evil in my sight and chose what I do not delight in.
  13. 13So the Lord GOD says this: "My servants will eat, but you will go hungry. My servants will drink, but you will go thirsty. My servants will celebrate, but you will be put to shame.
  14. 14My servants will sing from hearts full of joy, but you will cry out from hearts full of sorrow and wail from a troubled spirit.
  15. 15Your name will be left as a curse for my chosen ones, because the Lord GOD will put you to death and call his servants by another name.
  16. 16So whoever blesses himself on earth will bless himself in the God of truth, and whoever swears on earth will swear by the God of truth, because the former troubles are forgotten and hidden from my eyes.
  17. 17Look, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things will not be remembered or come to mind.
  18. 18Instead, be glad and rejoice forever in what I'm creating! I am making Jerusalem a place of delight and her people a source of joy.
  19. 19I myself will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people. The sound of weeping and crying will never be heard there again.
  20. 20No longer will infants live only a few days, nor will old people die without living a full life. A person who dies at 100 will be thought of as a child, and a sinner who reaches 100 will be considered cursed.
  21. 21People will build houses and actually live in them. They'll plant vineyards and actually eat their fruit.
  22. 22They won't build a house only for someone else to live in it. They won't plant crops only for someone else to eat them. My people will live as long as trees, and my chosen ones will enjoy the work of their own hands for a long time.
  23. 23They won't work for nothing or have children only to see them face disaster. They are the offspring of those the LORD has blessed, and their descendants along with them.
  24. 24Before they even call out to me, I will answer. While they're still speaking, I will hear them.
  25. 25The wolf and the lamb will graze side by side. The lion will eat straw like an ox, and dust will be the serpent's food. Nothing will cause harm or destruction anywhere on my holy mountain," says the LORD.
