- 1Moreover Job continued his parable and said,
- 2As God lives, who has taken away my judgment, and the Almighty, who has troubled my soul—
- 3as long as my breath is in me and the spirit of God is in my nostrils,
- 4my lips will not speak wickedness, nor will my tongue utter deceit.
- 5God forbid that I should justify you; until I die I will not remove my integrity from me.
- 6I hold fast to my righteousness and will not let it go. My heart will not reproach me as long as I live.
- 7Let my enemy be as the wicked, and the one who rises up against me as the unrighteous.
- 8What hope does a hypocrite have, even if he gains, when God takes away his soul?
- 9Will God hear his cry when trouble comes upon him?
- 10Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call upon God?
- 11I will teach you by the hand of God; what is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
- 12Look, all of you have seen it; why then are you so completely foolish?
- 13This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive from the Almighty.
- 14If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword, and his offspring will not be satisfied with bread.
- 15Those that remain of him shall be buried in death, and his widows will not weep.
- 16Though he heap up silver like the dust and prepare clothing like the clay,
- 17he may prepare it, but the just will put it on, and the innocent will divide the silver.
- 18He builds his house like a moth, and like a booth that the keeper makes.
- 19The rich man lies down, but he will not be gathered; he opens his eyes, and he is no more.
- 20Terrors take hold of him like waters; a tempest steals him away in the night.
- 21The east wind carries him away, and he departs; and as a storm it hurls him out of his place.
- 22For God will hurl upon him and not spare; he would gladly flee out of his hand.
- 23Men will clap their hands at him and hiss him out of his place.
