1. 1Once the wall was built and I had set up the doors, and the gatekeepers, the singers, and the Levites had been appointed,
2. 2I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem, for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.
3. 3And I said to them, "Do not let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot. And while they stand by, let them shut the doors and bar them. And appoint watches from the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each one at his watch, and each one in front of his house."
4. 4The city was large and great, but the people were few in it, and the houses had not been built.
5. 5And my God put it in my heart to gather together the nobles, the rulers, and the people, so that they might be recorded by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of those who came up at the first, and found written in it:
6. 6These are the people of the province who went up out of captivity—those whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away—and returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, each one to his city;
7. 7They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this:
8. 8The children of Parosh: 2,172.
9. 9The children of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy and two.
10. 10The children of Arah, six hundred fifty and two.
11. 11The children of Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab: 2,818.
12. 12The children of Elam, one thousand two hundred fifty and four.
13. 13The children of Zattu, eight hundred forty and five.
14. 14The children of Zaccai, seven hundred and sixty.
15. 15The children of Binnui, six hundred forty and eight.
16. 16The children of Bebai, six hundred twenty and eight.

59. 59the children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth of Zebaim, the children of Amon.
60. 60All the Nethinims and the children of Solomon's servants were 392.
61. 61And these were they who went up also from Telmelah, Telharesha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer, but they could not show their father's house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel:
62. 62The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda: 642.
63. 63And of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai, who took one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite as wife and was called after their name.
64. 64These searched for their family records among those who were registered by genealogy, but they were not found. Therefore, they were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.
65. 65And the Tirshatha told them not to eat the most holy things until a priest stood up with Urim and Thummim.
66. 66The whole congregation together was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty,
67. 67besides their male servants and their female servants, of whom there were 7,337; and they had 245 singing men and singing women.
68. 68Their horses, seven hundred thirty-six; their mules, two hundred forty-five;
69. 69their camels: 435; their donkeys: 6,720.
70. 70And some of the heads of the fathers gave to the work. The Tirshatha gave to the treasury 1,000 drams of gold, 50 basins, and 530 priests' garments.
71. 71And some of the heads of the fathers gave to the treasury of the work 20,000 drams of gold and 2,200 pounds of silver.
72. 72And that which the rest of the people gave was 20,000 drams of gold, and 2,000 pounds of silver, and 67 priests' garments.
73. 73So the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the Nethinims, and all Israel settled in their cities. When the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.
