- 1The LORD spoke to Moses and said,
- 2"Give these instructions to the people of Israel: When a man or woman makes a special vow — the vow of a Nazirite — to set themselves apart for the LORD,
- 3they must stay away from wine and any other alcoholic drink. They must not drink vinegar made from wine or from any other alcohol, and they must not drink grape juice or eat fresh or dried grapes.
- 4For the entire time of their separation, they must not eat anything that comes from a grapevine — not even the seeds or the skins.
- 5No razor may touch their head for the entire period of their vow. Until the days of their separation to the LORD are complete, they are to be holy, letting their hair grow long and uncut.
- 6For the entire time they are set apart for the LORD, they must not go near a dead body.
- 7Even if their own father, mother, brother, or sister dies, they must not make themselves unclean, because the sign of their consecration to God is on their head.
- 8Throughout the entire period of their separation, they are holy to the LORD.
- 9If someone suddenly dies right next to them, defiling the hair of their consecration, they must shave their head on the day of their cleansing — they are to shave it on the 7th day.
- 10Then on the 8th day, they must bring 2 turtledoves or 2 young pigeons to the priest at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
- 11The priest shall offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, and make atonement for him because he sinned through contact with the dead body. He shall consecrate his head again that same day.
- 12They must rededicate themselves to the LORD for the full period of their separation and bring a 1-year-old male lamb as a guilt offering. The previous days don't count — they are lost, because their separation was defiled.
- 13Here is the law for the Nazirite when the period of separation is complete: they are to be brought to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
- 14There they must present their offering to the LORD: a 1-year-old male lamb without any defect as a burnt offering, a 1-year-old female lamb without any defect as a sin offering, and a ram without any defect as a peace offering.
- 15They must also bring a basket of unleavened bread — cakes of fine flour mixed with oil and unleavened wafers spread with oil — along with the grain offerings and drink offerings that go with them.
- 16The priest will present all of these before the LORD and sacrifice the sin offering and the burnt offering.
- 17Then he will sacrifice the ram as a peace offering to the LORD, along with the basket of unleavened bread. The priest will also present the grain offering and the drink offering.
- 18At the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, the Nazirite will shave off the hair that was the sign of their separation. They will take that hair and place it in the fire burning under the peace offering.
- 19After the Nazirite has shaved their head, the priest will take the boiled shoulder of the ram, one unleavened cake from the basket, and one unleavened wafer, and place them in the Nazirite's hands.
- 20The priest will then wave them as a wave offering before the LORD. This is holy for the priest, along with the wave breast and the heave shoulder. After this, the Nazirite may drink wine.
- 21This is the law for any Nazirite who makes a vow. This is the minimum offering they must bring to the LORD for their separation — though if they can afford more, they may give more. Whatever they vow, they must fulfill according to the law of their separation."
- 22The LORD spoke to Moses and said,
- 23"Tell Aaron and his sons: This is how you are to bless the people of Israel. Say to them:
- 24'May the LORD bless you and keep you.
- 25May the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
- 26May the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.'
- 27In this way, they will place my name on the people of Israel, and I will bless them."
