Count the Stars

The Covenant

Genesis 15:1–6

1Some time later, the word of the LORD came to Abram through a vision: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield and your very great reward." 2Abram said, "LORD God, what will you give me, since I remain childless, and the steward of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?" 3Abram continued, "Look, you have not given me any offspring, so a servant born in my household will be my heir." 4Then the word of the LORD came to him: "That man will not be your heir. Instead, a son from your own body will be your heir." 5The LORD took him outside and said, "Gaze up at the heavens and try to count the stars, if you can." Then he told him, "That is how numerous your offspring will be." 6Abram believed in the LORD, and he counted it to him for righteousness.
