“Yours, O LORD, Is the Greatness”
Prayers in his story
1 Chronicles 29:10–19
10Then David praised the LORD in front of the entire assembly. He said, "You are blessed, LORD, God of Israel our father, forever and ever." 11"Yours, LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty! Everything in the heavens and on the earth belongs to you. Yours is the kingdom, LORD, and you are exalted as head above all." 12"Riches and honor come from you, and you rule over everything. In your hand are power and might. It's in your hand to make anyone great and to give strength to all." 13"So now, our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name." 14"But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give so freely like this? Everything comes from you — we're only giving back what you first gave us." 15"We are strangers and foreigners in your sight, just as all our ancestors were. Our days on this earth pass like a shadow, and nothing here lasts." 16"LORD our God, all this wealth we've gathered to build a house for your holy name — it came from your hand, and it all belongs to you." 17"I know, my God, that you test the heart and take pleasure in integrity. With an honest heart, I've given all of this willingly. And now I've watched with joy as your people who are gathered here have given willingly to you." 18O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, keep this forever in the imagination and thoughts of the hearts of your people, and prepare their hearts toward you. 19And give my son Solomon a perfect heart to follow your commands, your decrees, and your laws, to do all these things, and to build the palace for which I have made provision.
