The Cave of Adullam

On the Run · The cave of Adullam

1 Samuel 22:1–5

1David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and the rest of his father's family heard where he was, they went down to join him. 2Everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered around him. He became their leader, and there were about 400 men with him. 3David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab and said to the king of Moab, "Please let my father and mother come and stay with you until I know what God will do for me." 4So he brought his parents before the king of Moab, and they stayed with him the entire time David was in the stronghold. 5But the prophet Gad told David, "Don't stay in the stronghold. Go back to the land of Judah." So David left and went to the forest of Hareth.
