Escape to Egypt

¹³After the wise men had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother, and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I bring you word, because Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him." ¹⁴So Joseph got up that very night, took the child and his mother, and left for Egypt. ¹⁵They stayed there until Herod died. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son." ¹⁶Then Herod, when he saw that he had been mocked by the wise men, was extremely angry. He sent forth and killed all the children in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding region who were two years old and under, according to the time he had carefully inquired of the wise men. ¹⁷This fulfilled what the prophet Jeremiah had spoken: ¹⁸A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping, and great mourning. Rachel was crying for her children and refused to be comforted, because they are no more.
