The Arrest

⁴³And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, arrived with a great crowd carrying swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders. ⁴⁴Judas had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss is the man you want. Grab him and take him away under guard." ⁴⁵The moment he arrived, Judas walked straight up to Jesus and said, "Rabbi! Rabbi!" and kissed him. ⁴⁶The men seized Jesus and held him. ⁴⁷One of the bystanders drew a sword, struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his ear. ⁴⁸Jesus said to them, "Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me, as if I were a thief?" ⁴⁹Day after day I was right there with you, teaching in the temple, and you never arrested me. But this is happening so that the Scriptures will be fulfilled." ⁵⁰Then every one of his disciples abandoned him and ran. ⁵¹A young man had been following Jesus, wearing nothing but a linen cloth. The mob grabbed at him, ⁵²but he slipped out of the cloth and ran away naked.
