Choose Life

Deuteronomy 30:11–20
11For this commandment that I am giving you today is not hidden from you, nor is it far away. 12It isn't up in heaven, so that you'd have to ask, "Who will go up to heaven for us, bring it down, and explain it to us so we can follow it?" 13And it isn't across the sea, so that you'd have to ask, "Who will cross the sea for us, bring it back, and explain it to us so we can follow it?" 14No — the word is right here with you. It's already on your lips and in your heart, ready for you to live it out. 15See, today I have set before you life and good, and death and evil; 16I'm commanding you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments, laws, and regulations. If you do, you will live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you're crossing over to possess. 17But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen — if you let yourselves be lured into worshiping and serving other gods — 18then I'm telling you plainly today: you will be destroyed. You won't last long in the land you're crossing the Jordan to possess. 19I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today: I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. So choose life, so that you and your descendants may live! 20so that you may love the LORD your God, obey his voice, and hold tightly to him; for he is your life and the length of your days, so that you may live in the land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers—Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
