The Plague of Frogs

The Plagues and the Passover · Egypt

Exodus 8:1–15

1The LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, that they may serve me.'" 2If you refuse to let them go, I will strike your entire country with a plague of frogs. 3The Nile will swarm with frogs. They'll crawl into your palace, into your bedroom, and onto your bed. They'll invade your servants' houses, crawl all over your people, and get into your ovens and your bread dough. 4The frogs will swarm over you, your people, and every one of your servants."'" 5Then the LORD told Moses, "Tell Aaron to stretch out his hand with his staff over the rivers, streams, and pools, and bring frogs up across the whole land of Egypt." 6So Aaron stretched his hand out over the waters of Egypt, and frogs came up and covered the entire land. 7But the magicians did the same with their sorcery, and brought up frogs onto the land of Egypt. 8Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "Pray to the LORD to take these frogs away from me and my people, and I'll let your people go to offer sacrifices to the LORD." 9Moses replied, "I'll give you the honor of choosing the time. When should I pray for you, your servants, and your people so that the frogs are destroyed everywhere except in the Nile?" 10"Tomorrow," Pharaoh said. Moses answered, "It will be just as you say, so that you'll know there is no one like the LORD our God. 11The frogs will leave you, your houses, your servants, and your people. They'll remain only in the Nile." 12Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh, and Moses cried out to the LORD about the frogs he had brought against Pharaoh. 13The LORD did according to Moses' word, and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields. 14The people piled them up in huge heaps, and the whole land reeked. 15But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and did not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.
