Be Holy; Love Your Neighbor

At Mount Sinai

Leviticus 19:1–18

1The LORD spoke to Moses and said, 2"Tell the entire community of Israel: You must be holy, because I, the LORD your God, am holy. 3"Each of you must fear your mother and father, and you must keep my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God. 4"Don't turn to idols, and don't make metal gods for yourselves. I am the LORD your God. 5When you offer a peace offering to the LORD, you must offer it voluntarily. 6It must be eaten on the same day you offer it, or the next day. If any of it is still left on the 3rd day, burn it completely. 7If it is eaten on the third day, it is abominable and will not be accepted. 8Anyone who eats it will bear the guilt of their sin, because they have treated something holy to the LORD as common. That soul must be cut off from their people. 9"When you harvest your fields, don't cut all the way to the edges, and don't go back to pick up what you missed. 10Don't strip your vineyard bare or pick up the fallen grapes. Leave them for the poor and for foreigners. I am the LORD your God. 11"Don't steal. Don't lie. Don't deceive each other. 12"Don't swear falsely by my name — that dishonors the name of your God. I am the LORD. 13"Don't cheat your neighbor or rob them. If you hire a worker, don't hold their wages overnight — pay them before morning. 14"Don't curse a deaf person, and don't put an obstacle in front of a blind person. Fear your God. I am the LORD. 15"Don't pervert justice. Don't show favoritism to the poor, and don't give special treatment to the powerful. Judge your neighbor fairly. 16"Don't go around spreading slander among your people. Don't do anything that endangers your neighbor's life. I am the LORD. 17You must not hate your brother in your heart. You must surely rebuke your neighbor and not suffer sin upon him. 18"Don't take revenge, and don't hold a grudge against your own people. Instead, love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.
