When soldiers and officials came to arrest Jesus, Simon Peter drew his sword and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back in its sheath! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?”

Good to know

Matthew, Mark and Luke tell of the sword but do not name Peter or Malchus; John names them both. Luke 22:51 says Jesus touched the ear and healed it.
