  1. 1Now, brothers, you don't need me to write to you about the times and the seasons.
  2. 2You already know perfectly well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
  3. 3For when they say, "Peace and safety," then sudden destruction will come upon them, like labor pains upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
  4. 4But you, brothers, are not in darkness, so that day will not overtake you like a thief.
  5. 5All of you are children of light, children of the day. We don't belong to the night or to darkness.
  6. 6So then, let us not sleep as others do, but let us stay alert and sober.
  7. 7People who sleep do it at night, and people who get drunk do it at night.
  8. 8But since we belong to the day, let's stay sober, wearing faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
  9. 9For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
  10. 10who died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with him.
  11. 11So encourage each other and build one another up — just as you're already doing.
  12. 12Brothers, we ask you to recognize those who work hard among you, who lead you in the Lord and admonish you.
  13. 13Hold them in the highest regard and love them because of the work they do. Live at peace with one another.
  14. 14Now we urge you, brothers: warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient with everyone.
  15. 15Make sure no one pays back evil with evil. Instead, always pursue what is good — for each other and for everyone.
  16. 16Rejoice always.
  17. 17Pray without ceasing.
  18. 18Give thanks in every situation, because this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
  19. 19Do not quench the Spirit.
  20. 20Do not despise prophecies.
  21. 21Test everything and hold on to what is good.
  22. 22Stay away from every form of evil.
  23. 23May the God of peace himself make you completely holy. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  24. 24The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
  25. 25Brothers, pray for us.
  26. 26Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
  27. 27I solemnly charge you in the Lord's name: have this letter read to all the holy brothers.
  28. 28May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
