- 1Finally, brothers and sisters, we urge and encourage you in the Lord Jesus: you already learned from us how to live in a way that pleases God, and you're doing it. Now keep growing in it more and more.
- 2You know the instructions we gave you through the authority of the Lord Jesus.
- 3For this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you should abstain from sexual immorality:
- 4Each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable,
- 5not driven by lustful passions like people who don't know God.
- 6No one should go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we have warned you and testified.
- 7God didn't call us to live impure lives — he called us to live in holiness.
- 8Therefore, anyone who despises does not despise man, but God, who has also given us his Holy Spirit.
- 9Now about loving each other as brothers and sisters — I don't really need to write to you about that. God himself has taught you to love one another.
- 10And you're already showing that love to all the believers throughout Macedonia. But we encourage you, brothers and sisters, to keep doing it more and more.
- 11Make it your goal to live a quiet life, mind your own affairs, and work with your own hands, just as we told you to do.
- 12So that you may walk honestly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.
- 13Brothers and sisters, we don't want you to be uninformed about those who are asleep, so that you won't grieve like others who have no hope.
- 14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, in the same way, God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
- 15For we tell you this by the word of the Lord: those of us who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
- 16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
- 17Then those of us who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And from that moment on, we will be with the Lord forever.
- 18Therefore, comfort each other with these words.
