- 1First of all, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone;
- 2for kings and all those in authority — so that we may live quiet and peaceful lives in all godliness and honesty.
- 3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
- 4who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
- 5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus,
- 6who gave himself as a ransom for everyone. This was the testimony given at just the right time,
- 7and I was appointed as a preacher and an apostle to share it — I'm telling the truth in Christ, I'm not lying — as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
- 8So I want men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, free from anger and doubt.
- 9In the same way, I want women to dress in modest clothing, with decency and self-control, not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or expensive clothes,
- 10but with good works, which is fitting for women professing godliness.
- 11A woman should learn quietly and with complete submission.
- 12I don't allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. Instead, she is to remain quiet.
- 13Adam was created first, and then Eve.
- 14It wasn't Adam who was deceived — it was the woman who was deceived and fell into sin.
- 15Nevertheless, she will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness with self-control.
