- 1Now the Spirit says clearly that in the latter times, some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceiving spirits and doctrines of devils;
- 2Speaking lies in hypocrisy, their conscience is seared with a hot iron;
- 3they forbid marriage and command people to abstain from foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
- 4Everything God created is good, and nothing should be rejected if it's received with thanksgiving,
- 5because it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.
- 6If you remind the brothers and sisters of these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished by the words of faith and good doctrine, which you have followed.
- 7But avoid profane and old wives' fables, and instead train yourself in godliness.
- 8For physical training is of little benefit. But godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
- 9This is a trustworthy saying that deserves to be fully accepted.
- 10This is why we work hard and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.
- 11Command and teach these things.
- 12Let no one look down on you because you are young. Instead, be an example to the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
- 13Until I come, devote yourself to reading, to exhortation, and to teaching.
- 14Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
- 15Meditate on these things; dedicate yourself completely to them, so that your progress may be evident to all.
- 16Watch your life and your teaching closely. Stay committed to both, because by doing so you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.
