  1. 1When all the work Solomon had done for the house of the LORD was finally complete, he brought in everything his father David had dedicated — the silver, the gold, and all the sacred items — and placed them in the treasuries of God's house.
  2. 2Solomon then called together all the elders of Israel, the heads of every tribe, and the leaders of the ancestral families to Jerusalem. His purpose was to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD up from the city of David, which is Zion.
  3. 3So all the men of Israel gathered before the king during the festival in the seventh month.
  4. 4Once all the elders of Israel arrived, the Levites lifted the ark.
  5. 5They carried up the ark, the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle. The priests and the Levites brought these up.
  6. 6King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel gathered in front of the ark and sacrificed so many sheep and cattle that no one could count them all.
  7. 7The priests carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its designated place — into the inner sanctuary of the temple, the most holy place — and set it beneath the wings of the cherubim.
  8. 8The cherubim spread their wings over the spot where the ark rested, covering both the ark and its carrying poles from above.
  9. 9The poles were long enough that their ends could be seen extending from the ark in front of the inner sanctuary, but they couldn't be seen from outside. The ark remains there to this day.
  10. 10There was nothing inside the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses placed there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.
  11. 11When the priests came out of the holy place — every priest who was present had consecrated himself, setting aside their normal divisions —
  12. 12all the Levite musicians — Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and relatives — stood at the east side of the altar dressed in fine white linen, playing cymbals, harps, and lyres. With them stood 120 priests blowing trumpets.
  13. 13The trumpeters and singers joined together as one voice, praising and thanking the LORD. As they raised the sound of trumpets, cymbals, and instruments and sang, 'For he is good; for his mercy endures forever!' — the house was filled with a cloud, the house of the LORD.
  14. 14The priests couldn't even stand to carry out their duties because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled God's house.
