  1. 1Are we beginning again to commend ourselves? Do we need, like some others, letters of commendation to you or from you?
  2. 2You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.
  3. 3It's clear that you are a letter from Christ, delivered through our ministry — written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on fleshy tablets of the heart.
  4. 4This is the kind of confidence we have before God through Christ.
  5. 5It's not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our sufficiency is from God.
  6. 6He has made us capable ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life.
  7. 7But if the service of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance—which glory was to be done away:
  8. 8So how much more glorious is the ministry of the Spirit?
  9. 9If the ministry that brought condemnation had glory, the ministry that brings righteousness overflows with even greater glory.
  10. 10In fact, what once seemed glorious has no glory at all in this respect, because of the glory that far surpasses it.
  11. 11If what was fading away was glorious, how much more glorious is what remains.
  12. 12Since we have this kind of hope, we speak with complete boldness.
  13. 13and not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was being abolished:
  14. 14But their minds were blinded. To this very day, when the old testament is read, that same veil remains, and it is only removed in Christ.
  15. 15Even now, whenever the writings of Moses are read, a veil covers their hearts.
  16. 16But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
  17. 17Now the Lord is the Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
  18. 18But we all, with unveiled faces, see the glory of the Lord as in a mirror. We are transformed into the same image, from glory to glory, by the Spirit of the Lord.
