  1. 1Now concerning the service to the saints, it is unnecessary for me to write to you:
  2. 2I know how eager you are, and I boast about you to the people of Macedonia, saying that Achaia was ready a year ago. Your zeal has stirred up very many.
  3. 3But I have sent the brothers so that our boasting about you will not prove empty in this matter and so that, as I said, you may be ready:
  4. 4Otherwise, if some Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we — not to mention you — would be put to shame in this confident boasting.
  5. 5Therefore, I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to go to you ahead of me and prepare your gift in advance, which you were told about earlier. Then it would be ready as a gift and not as an act of greed.
  6. 6But this I say: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
  7. 7Each person should give what they have decided in their heart, not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver.
  8. 8God is able to make all grace overflow toward you, so that you will always have enough of everything and may abound in every good work.
  9. 9As it is written: He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor. His righteousness remains forever.
  10. 10Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness.
  11. 11You will be enriched in everything for all generosity, which through us causes thanksgiving to God.
  12. 12For this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also overflows with many thanksgivings to God;
  13. 13Through the proof of this service, they glorify God for your declared obedience to the gospel of Christ and for your generous sharing with them and with everyone.
  14. 14And by their prayer for you, they long for you because of the extraordinary grace of God in you.
  15. 15Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift.
