- 2Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall and prayed to the LORD.
- 3Please, LORD, remember how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done what is good in your sight. Then Hezekiah wept bitterly.
- 4Before Isaiah had even left the middle courtyard, the word of the LORD came to him:
- 5Go back and tell Hezekiah, the captain of my people, 'This is what the LORD, the God of David your father, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. Look, I will heal you. On the 3rd day you will go up to the house of the LORD.'
- 6I will add fifteen years to your life. I will rescue you and this city from the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David.
- 7Isaiah said, "Take a lump of figs." So they took it and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.
- 8Hezekiah asked Isaiah, "What sign will the LORD give me to confirm that he will heal me and that I'll go up to the house of the LORD on the third day?"
- 9Isaiah said, "This sign you shall have from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?"

- 11Isaiah the prophet cried to the LORD, and he brought the shadow 10 degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.
- 12Around that time, Berodachbaladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah because he had heard about his illness.
- 13Hezekiah listened to them and showed them everything in his house of precious things: the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious ointment, his entire armory, and everything in his treasures. There was nothing in his house or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.
- 14Then the prophet Isaiah came to King Hezekiah and asked, "What did those men say, and where did they come from?" Hezekiah answered, "They came from a distant land — from Babylon."
- 15Isaiah asked, "What did they see in your house?" Hezekiah replied, "They saw everything in my house. There's nothing among my treasures that I didn't show them."
- 16Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Listen to the word of the LORD:
- 17"'The time is coming when everything in your palace — everything your ancestors have stored up until today — will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left,' says the LORD.
- 18Some of your sons, your own descendants, will be taken away and become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
- 19Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good." And he said, "Is it not good if there is peace and truth in my days?"
- 20The rest of Hezekiah's acts, all his might, and how he made a pool and a conduit to bring water into the city, are recorded in the chronicles of the kings of Judah.
- 21Hezekiah died, and his son Manasseh reigned in his place.
