  1. 1From Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained the same precious faith as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
  2. 2May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
  3. 3Through his divine power, God has given us everything we need for life and godliness, through knowing him who called us to glory and virtue.
  4. 4Through these we have been given exceedingly great and precious promises, so that by them you might share in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
  5. 5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue, and to virtue add knowledge,
  6. 6and to knowledge add self-control, and to self-control add perseverance, and to perseverance add godliness,
  7. 7and to godliness add brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness add love.
  8. 8For if these things are in you, and abound, they make you that you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  9. 9But anyone who lacks these qualities is blind and shortsighted, having forgotten that they were purged from their old sins.
  10. 10Therefore, brothers and sisters, be diligent to confirm your calling and election: for if you do these things, you shall never fall.
  11. 11For in this way, you will be provided with a rich entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
  12. 12Therefore, I will not neglect to always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the present truth.
  13. 13Yes, I consider it appropriate, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by reminding you.
  14. 14knowing that shortly I must put off this my tent, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me.
  15. 15Moreover I will endeavor that you may be able after my death to always remember these things.
  16. 16When we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, we weren't repeating cleverly invented stories. We saw his majesty with our own eyes.
  17. 17For he received honor and glory from God the Father when a voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
  18. 18We ourselves heard that voice speak from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.
  19. 19We also have a more sure word of prophecy; you would do well to pay attention to it, like a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the day star rises in your hearts.
  20. 20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
  21. 21Prophecy never originated from human will. Instead, holy men of God spoke as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
