- 1Listen to this message the LORD has spoken against you, people of Israel — against the entire nation I brought out of Egypt:
- 2You only have I known among all the families of the earth; therefore, I will punish you for all your sins.
- 3Can two people walk together unless they are in agreement?
- 4Does a lion roar in the thicket when it has no prey? Does a young lion growl from its den unless it has caught something?
- 5Does a bird drop into a trap on the ground when no snare has been set? Does a trap spring shut when there's nothing to catch?
- 6When a trumpet blasts an alarm in a city, don't the people tremble? When disaster strikes a city, hasn't the LORD brought it about?
- 7Surely the Lord GOD does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.
- 8A lion has roared — who won't fear? The Lord GOD has spoken — who can keep from prophesying?
- 9Announce in the palaces of Ashdod and in the palaces of Egypt: 'Gather on the mountains of Samaria and see the great tumults and the oppressed within her.'
- 10They don't know how to do right, says the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.
- 11Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: “An adversary will be all around the land. He will bring down your strength from you, and your palaces will be plundered.”
- 12The LORD says: 'As a shepherd takes from the lion's mouth two legs or a piece of an ear, so will the children of Israel be taken out, those who live in Samaria on the corner of a bed, and in Damascus on a couch.'
- 13Listen and testify in the house of Jacob," says the Lord GOD, the God of hosts.
- 14On the day I punish Israel for his transgressions, I will also punish the altars of Bethel. The horns of the altar will be cut off and fall to the ground.
- 15"I will demolish the winter house along with the summer house. The ivory mansions will be destroyed, and the great estates will come to an end," says the LORD.
