- 1Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, that are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to your masters, 'Bring, and let us drink.'
- 2The Lord GOD has sworn by his holiness: 'The days are coming when they will take you away with hooks, and your descendants with fishhooks.'
- 3“You will go out at the breaches, every cow at what is before her, and you will cast them into the palace,” says the LORD.
- 4Go to Bethel and sin; go to Gilgal and multiply your sins; bring your sacrifices every morning and your tithes every three years.
- 5Offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and announce your freewill offerings. This is what you love to do, people of Israel," says the Lord GOD.
- 6And I also gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities and a lack of bread in all your places, yet you have not returned to me, says the LORD.
- 7I also held back the rain when there were still three months until the harvest. I sent rain on one city but withheld it from another. One piece of land received rain, while the piece that did not receive rain withered.
- 8So people from two or three cities wandered to one city to drink water, but they were not satisfied. Yet you have not returned to me, says the LORD.
- 9I struck you with blight and mildew. When your gardens, vineyards, fig trees, and olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them. Yet you have not returned to me, says the LORD.
- 10I sent plagues among you like I did to Egypt. I killed your young men with the sword and took away your horses. I filled your nostrils with the stench of your own camps. Yet you still didn't return to me," says the LORD.
- 11"I destroyed some of you the way God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. You were like a burning stick snatched from the fire. Yet you still didn't return to me," says the LORD.
- 12Therefore, this is what I will do to you, O Israel: and because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel.
- 13For look, he forms the mountains, creates the wind, and declares to man what his thought is. He makes the morning darkness and treads upon the high places of the earth. The LORD, the God of hosts, is his name.
