  1. 1When you finally enter the land the LORD your God is giving you as your inheritance, and you've taken possession of it and settled there,
  2. 2you must take some of the first produce harvested from the soil of that land — the land the LORD your God is giving you — and place it in a basket. Then carry it to the place the LORD your God chooses to place his name there.
  3. 3Go to the priest serving at that time and tell him, "I declare today to the LORD your God that I have entered the land the LORD promised our ancestors he would give us."
  4. 4The priest will then take the basket from your hands and set it down in front of the altar of the LORD your God.
  5. 5You must declare before the LORD your God, "My father was a Syrian ready to perish. He went down into Egypt with a few people and lived there as a foreigner, and there he became a great, mighty, and populous nation."
  6. 6The Egyptians treated us cruelly, oppressed us, and forced us into brutal slavery.
  7. 7So we cried out to the LORD, the God of our ancestors. The LORD heard our cries and saw our suffering, our exhausting labor, and our oppression.
  8. 8The LORD brought us out of Egypt with his mighty hand and outstretched arm, with terrifying power, with miraculous signs and wonders.
  9. 9He brought us to this place and gave us this land — a land flowing with milk and honey.
  10. 10So now, LORD, I am bringing the first produce from the land you have given me." Then you must set the basket down before the LORD your God and bow in worship before him.
  11. 11After that, celebrate! Enjoy every good thing the LORD your God has given to you and your household — you, the Levites, and the foreigners living among you.
  12. 12In the 3rd year — the year of the special tithe — when you have finished setting aside a 10th of all your produce, you must give it to the Levites, the foreigners, the orphans, and the widows, so they can eat within your towns and be satisfied.
  13. 13Then declare before the LORD your God: "I have removed the sacred portion from my house and given it to the Levites, the foreigners, the orphans, and the widows, exactly as you commanded me. I haven't broken any of your commands, and I haven't forgotten a single one.
  14. 14I haven't eaten any of this sacred portion while mourning. I haven't handled any of it while I was unclean. I haven't offered any of it to the dead. I have obeyed the LORD my God and done everything you commanded me to do.
  15. 15Look down from heaven, your holy dwelling place, and bless your people Israel and the land you have given us, as you swore to our ancestors — a land flowing with milk and honey.
  16. 16Today the LORD your God commands you to follow these statutes and judgments. Therefore, keep and do them with all your heart and with all your soul.
  17. 17Today you have declared that the LORD is your God, and that you will walk in his ways, keep his laws, his commands, and his regulations, and listen to his voice.
  18. 18And today the LORD has declared that you are his treasured people, just as he promised you, and that you must keep all his commands.
  19. 19He will raise you high above every nation he has made — giving you praise, fame, and honor — so that you will be a people set apart as holy to the LORD your God, just as he promised.
