- 1Moses gathered the entire community of Israel together and told them, "These are the things the LORD has commanded you to do.
- 2You may work for 6 days, but the 7th day must be set apart as holy — a Sabbath of complete rest dedicated to the LORD. Anyone who does any work on that day must be put to death.
- 3You must not even light a fire in any of your homes on the Sabbath day."
- 4Then Moses addressed the whole community of Israel: "Here is what the LORD has commanded.
- 5Collect an offering for the LORD from among yourselves. Everyone who is willing should bring a contribution to the LORD: gold, silver, bronze,
- 6blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, fine linen, goats' hair,
- 7rams' skins dyed red, badgers' skins, and acacia wood,
- 8oil for the lampstand, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense,
- 9onyx stones, and gemstones to be mounted on the ephod and the breastplate.
- 10Every skilled craftsman among you should come and make everything the LORD has commanded:
- 11the tabernacle itself — its outer covering, its roof, its clasps, its frames, its crossbars, its posts, and its bases;
- 12the ark with its carrying poles, the mercy seat, and the inner curtain that screens it;
- 13the table with its carrying poles, all its utensils, and the bread of the Presence;
- 14the lampstand for light along with its accessories, its lamps, and the oil for the light;
- 15the incense altar with its carrying poles, the anointing oil, the fragrant incense, and the curtain for the entrance of the tabernacle;
- 16the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grating, its carrying poles, and all its utensils; the basin and its stand;
- 17the curtains for the courtyard, its posts and their bases, and the screen for the courtyard gate;
- 18the tent pegs for the tabernacle and the courtyard, along with their ropes;
- 19and the finely crafted garments for serving in the holy place — the sacred garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons to wear while serving as priests."
- 20The whole community then left Moses' presence.
- 21Everyone whose heart was stirred and whose spirit was willing came back and brought an offering to the LORD for the construction of the tabernacle, for all its furnishings, and for the sacred garments.
- 22Men and women alike came — everyone who was willing — bringing brooches, earrings, rings, and necklaces, all kinds of gold jewelry. Each person who gave gold presented it as an offering to the LORD.
- 23Everyone who had blue, purple, or scarlet yarn, fine linen, goats' hair, rams' skins dyed red, or badgers' skins brought them.
- 24Everyone who wanted to give silver or bronze brought it as an offering to the LORD, and anyone who had acacia wood useful for the project brought that as well.
- 25Every woman skilled with her hands spun thread and brought what she had made — blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine linen.
- 26Other women whose hearts moved them to use their skill spun thread from goats' hair.
- 27The leaders brought onyx stones and other gemstones to be set into the ephod and the breastplate,
- 28along with spices and olive oil for the lampstand, for the anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense.
- 29Every man and woman among the Israelites whose heart moved them to contribute brought a freewill offering to the LORD for all the work the LORD had commanded through Moses.
- 30Then Moses told the Israelites, "Look — the LORD has chosen Bezaleel by name, the son of Uri and grandson of Hur, from the tribe of Judah.
- 31God has filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him extraordinary wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and skill in every kind of craft.
- 32He can design artistic works and execute them in gold, silver, and bronze.
- 33He can cut and set gemstones, carve wood, and produce every kind of masterful work.
- 34God has also given him the ability to teach others — both him and Aholiab son of Ahisamach, from the tribe of Dan.
- 35God has filled both of them with exceptional skill to do every kind of work — engraving, designing, embroidering with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen, weaving, and crafting works of every kind."
