- 1He said to me, "Son of man, stand up on your feet, and I will speak to you."
- 2And the spirit entered into me as he spoke to me, setting me on my feet, so that I heard him speaking to me.
- 3He said to me, "Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me. They and their fathers have transgressed against me, even to this very day."
- 4For they are impudent children and stubborn-hearted. I am sending you to them, and you will say to them, 'This is what the Lord GOD says.'
- 5Whether they listen or refuse to listen — because they are a rebellious house — they will know that a prophet has been among them.
- 6As for you, son of man, don't be afraid of them or their words, even though you're surrounded by briers and thorns and live among scorpions. Don't be afraid of their words or dismayed by their looks, even though they are a rebellious house.
- 7You will speak my words to them, whether they listen or refuse, for they are most rebellious.
- 8But you, son of man — listen to what I'm telling you. Don't be rebellious like they are. Open your mouth and eat what I give you."
- 9When I looked, I saw a hand stretched out toward me, and in it was a scroll of a book.
- 10He unrolled it in front of me, and it was covered with writing on both sides — words of lament, mourning, and woe.
