  1. 1Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
  2. 2Son of man, will you judge the bloody city? Yes, you shall show her all her abominations.
  3. 3Then say, This is what the Lord GOD says: The city sheds blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and makes idols against herself to defile herself.
  4. 4You have become guilty because of the blood you have shed, and you have defiled yourself with the idols you have made. You have brought your days closer and have reached your years. Therefore, I have made you a reproach among the heathen and a mocking to all countries.
  5. 5Those who are near and those who are far away will mock you, for you are infamous and greatly troubled.
  6. 6Look, the leaders of Israel, each one, have used their power to shed blood.
  7. 7Inside you, people treat their fathers and mothers with contempt. They oppress the foreigners living among them. They exploit orphans and widows.
  8. 8You have despised my holy things and have profaned my Sabbaths.
  9. 9Among you are men who spread tales to shed blood. In your midst, they eat on the mountains and commit lewd acts.
  10. 10In you, they have uncovered their fathers' nakedness; in you, they have humbled women who were set apart during their impurity.
  11. 11One man commits a disgusting act with his neighbor's wife. Another defiles his own daughter-in-law. Still another violates his own sister — his father's daughter.
  12. 12In you, people accept bribes to murder. You charge interest and make profit off your neighbors through extortion. You have forgotten me, says the Lord GOD.
  13. 13Look, I have clapped my hands in anger at your dishonest gain and the bloodshed among you.
  14. 14Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days when I deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken it, and I will do it.
  15. 15I will scatter you among the nations and disperse you across the countries, and I will remove your filthiness from you.
  16. 16You will take your inheritance within yourself in the sight of the nations, and you will know that I am the LORD.
  17. 17The word of the LORD came to me:
  18. 18Son of man, the people of Israel have become dross to me: they are all bronze, tin, iron, and lead in the midst of the furnace; they are the dross of silver.
  19. 19So this is what the Lord GOD says: Because all of you have become dross, I am going to gather you together inside Jerusalem.
  20. 20As they gather silver, brass, iron, lead, and tin into the middle of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt it, so I will gather you in my anger and in my fury, and I will leave you there and melt you.
  21. 21Yes, I will gather you and blow upon you in the fire of my wrath, and you will be melted in the midst of it.
  22. 22Like silver melting in a furnace, you will melt inside Jerusalem. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have poured out my fury on you."
  23. 23The word of the LORD came to me:
  24. 24Son of man, say to her, 'You are the land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation.'
  25. 25Her prophets have formed a conspiracy within her. Like roaring lions tearing apart their prey, they have devoured souls. They have seized treasure and precious things. They have made many widows in her midst.
  26. 26Her priests have violated my law and have profaned my holy things. They make no distinction between the holy and the profane, and they do not show the difference between the unclean and the clean. They have ignored my Sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.
  27. 27Her princes in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain.
  28. 28Her prophets have smeared them with untempered mortar, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, 'This is what the Lord GOD says,' when the LORD has not spoken.
  29. 29The people of the land practice oppression and robbery. They mistreat the poor and needy and wrongfully oppress the stranger.
  30. 30I searched for someone among them who would make up the hedge and stand in the gap before me for the land, so I wouldn't have to destroy it, but I found no one.
  31. 31So I have poured out my fury on them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have brought the consequences of their own actions down on their heads," says the Lord GOD.
