  1. 1On the 1st day of the 12th month, in the 12th year, the word of the LORD came to me:
  2. 2Son of man, take up a lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him: 'You are like a young lion among the nations, and like a sea monster. You came forth with your rivers, stirred up the waters with your feet, and muddied their rivers.'
  3. 3This is what the Lord GOD says: I will spread my net over you with a company of many people, and they will bring you up in my net.
  4. 4Then I will leave you upon the land; I will cast you forth upon the open field, and will cause all the birds of the sky to remain upon you, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with you.
  5. 5"I will scatter your flesh across the mountains and fill the valleys with your remains."
  6. 6I will also water the land where you swim with your blood, even to the mountains; and the rivers will be full of you.
  7. 7When I extinguish you, I will cover the heavens and darken the stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light.
  8. 8"I will make every bright light in the sky go dark above you and blanket your land in darkness," says the Lord GOD.
  9. 9I will trouble the hearts of many people when I bring your destruction among the nations, into countries you have not known.
  10. 10I will leave many people amazed at you. Their kings will shudder in horror when I brandish my sword in front of them. On the day you fall, every one of them will tremble, fearing for their own lives.
  11. 11For this is what the Lord GOD says: "The sword of the king of Babylon is coming for you."
  12. 12"I will use the swords of mighty warriors to cut down your hordes — the most ruthless soldiers from every nation. They will shatter Egypt's pride, and all its masses will be wiped out."
  13. 13"I will also destroy all its livestock from beside the great waters. No human foot will stir those waters again, and no animal's hoof will muddy them."
  14. 14"Then I will let their waters settle and make their rivers flow smooth as oil," says the Lord GOD.
  15. 15"When I turn the land of Egypt into a wasteland, stripping it bare of everything that once filled it, and when I strike down everyone living there — then they will know that I am the LORD."
  16. 16"This is the funeral song they will sing over her. The women of the nations will sing it. They will mourn over Egypt and all her masses," says the Lord GOD.
  17. 17On the 15th day of that same month, in the 12th year, the word of the LORD came to me:
  18. 18"Son of man, weep for the masses of Egypt. Send her down — her and the daughters of powerful nations — to the depths of the earth, alongside those who descend into the pit."
  19. 19"Who are you more beautiful than? Go down and take your place among the uncircumcised dead."
  20. 20"They will fall among those killed by the sword. The sword is ready for her — drag her away with all her hordes."
  21. 21The strong among the mighty will speak to him from the depths of hell, along with those who help him: they have gone down, lying uncircumcised, killed by the sword.
  22. 22"Assyria is there with all her forces. Her graves surround her — every one of them killed, cut down by the sword."
  23. 23"Their graves are set in the deepest parts of the pit, with her armies gathered around her tomb. All of them were killed by the sword — the same ones who once spread terror in the land of the living."
  24. 24"Elam is there too, with all her hordes around her grave. All of them were killed by the sword. They went down uncircumcised to the depths of the earth — they who once spread terror in the land of the living. Now they carry their shame alongside everyone else in the pit."
  25. 25"A resting place has been made for her among the slain, surrounded by all her hordes. Their graves are all around her — every one of them uncircumcised, killed by the sword. Though they once spread terror in the land of the living, they now carry their shame with those who go down to the pit. She has been placed among the dead."
  26. 26"Meshech and Tubal are there with all their hordes, their graves surrounding them. All of them are uncircumcised, killed by the sword, because they once spread terror in the land of the living."
  27. 27And they shall not lie with the mighty who have fallen, the uncircumcised who have gone down to hell with their weapons of war. Their swords are placed under their heads, but their iniquities are upon their bones, even though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.
  28. 28"And you, Pharaoh — you too will be shattered and laid among the uncircumcised, alongside those killed by the sword."
  29. 29"Edom is there — her kings and all her princes. Despite their power, they are laid beside those killed by the sword. They lie with the uncircumcised, with those who have gone down to the pit."
  30. 30"All the princes of the north are there, along with all the Sidonians. They went down with the slain, put to shame despite the terror their power once caused. They lie uncircumcised among those killed by the sword, carrying their disgrace with everyone else in the pit."
  31. 31Pharaoh will see them and be comforted over all his multitude, Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, says the Lord GOD.
  32. 32For I have spread my terror throughout the land of the living. Now Pharaoh and all his hordes will be laid among the uncircumcised, alongside those killed by the sword, says the Lord GOD.
