  1. 1Then the man brought me to the gate — the one facing east.
  2. 2And there it was: the glory of the God of Israel, coming from the east. His voice was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone with his glory.
  3. 3It was like the appearance of the vision I saw, even like the vision I saw when I came to destroy the city. The visions were like the vision I saw by the Chebar River, and I fell on my face.
  4. 4The glory of the LORD entered the temple through the gate that faces east.
  5. 5So the spirit took me up and brought me into the inner court; and look, the glory of the LORD filled the house.
  6. 6I heard someone speaking to me from inside the temple, while the man stood beside me.
  7. 7The voice said to me, "Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place where my feet will rest. I will live here among the people of Israel forever. The house of Israel will no longer defile my holy name, neither they nor their kings, by their whoredom or by the carcases of their kings in their high places."
  8. 8They placed their doorsteps right next to my doorstep and their doorposts right beside my doorposts, with only a wall between us. They defiled my holy name with the abominations they committed, so I destroyed them in my anger.
  9. 9Now let them put away their prostitution and the dead bodies of their kings far from me, and I will live in the middle of them forever.
  10. 10"Son of man, describe this temple to the people of Israel so they will be ashamed of their sins. Let them study its design carefully.
  11. 11If they are ashamed of everything they've done, then show them the full plan of the temple — its layout, its exits and entrances, its complete design, and all its regulations and laws. Write it all down where they can see it, so they can follow the entire design and obey every regulation.
  12. 12This is the law of the temple: the entire area on top of the mountain, everything within its boundaries, is most holy. This is the law of the temple.
  13. 13"These are the measurements of the altar, using the long cubit (which is a standard cubit plus a hand width): The gutter at the base is 1 cubit deep and 1 cubit wide, with a rim around its edge that is 1 span high. This forms the base of the altar.
  14. 14From the ground-level gutter up to the lower ledge is 2 cubits, and the ledge extends out 1 cubit. From the lower ledge to the upper ledge is 4 cubits, and that ledge also extends out 1 cubit.
  15. 15The altar hearth above that is 4 cubits high, and 4 horns project upward from its corners.
  16. 16The altar hearth is square — 12 cubits long and 12 cubits wide on each side.
  17. 17The upper ledge is also square — 14 cubits long and 14 cubits wide — with a rim around it half a cubit wide and a gutter at its base 1 cubit wide all around. The steps leading up to the altar face east."
  18. 18Then he said to me, "Son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: 'These are the regulations for the altar on the day it is built, so that burnt offerings can be sacrificed on it and blood can be sprinkled against it.
  19. 19You are to give a young bull as a sin offering to the Levitical priests who are descendants of Zadok — the ones who come near to serve me,' declares the Lord GOD.
  20. 20You must take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of it, on the four corners of the ledge, and on the border all around. In this way you will cleanse and purify it.
  21. 21Then take the bull used for the sin offering and burn it in the designated area of the temple grounds, outside the sanctuary.
  22. 22"On the 2nd day, offer a male goat without any defect as a sin offering. The priests will cleanse the altar with it just as they did with the bull.
  23. 23When you have finished the cleansing, offer a young bull without any defect and a ram from the flock without any defect.
  24. 24Present them before the LORD. The priests will throw salt on them and offer them as a burnt offering to the LORD.
  25. 25"For 7 days, you are to provide a goat each day as a sin offering. A young bull and a ram from the flock, both without any defect, must also be provided each day.
  26. 26For seven days, they will cleanse and purify the altar, and they will consecrate themselves.
  27. 27When those 7 days are complete, then from the 8th day onward the priests will offer your burnt offerings and your peace offerings on the altar. And I will accept you,' declares the Lord GOD."
