- 1In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus, king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout his kingdom and also put it in writing, saying,
- 2This is what King Cyrus of Persia declares: 'The LORD God of heaven has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he has charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
- 3Who among you is of all his people? Let his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel (he is the God), which is in Jerusalem.
- 4Whoever remains in any place where he sojourns, let the men of his place help him with silver, with gold, with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem.
- 5Then the leaders of the fathers of Judah and Benjamin, along with the priests and the Levites, and all whose spirit God had stirred, rose up to go and build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem.
- 6All those around them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, gold, goods, livestock, and precious things, in addition to all that was willingly offered.
- 7King Cyrus also brought out the vessels of the house of the LORD, which Nebuchadnezzar had taken from Jerusalem and placed in the house of his gods.
- 8Cyrus had his treasurer Mithredath bring them out, and they were counted and handed over to Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah.
- 9And this is the number of them: thirty chargers of gold, a thousand chargers of silver, nine and twenty knives,
- 1030 basins of gold, silver basins of a second sort 410, and other vessels 1,000.
- 11In all, there were 5,400 articles of gold and silver. Sheshbazzar brought every one of them along when the exiles made their journey from Babylon back to Jerusalem.
