- 1So stand firm in the freedom that Christ has given us, and do not become entangled again with the yoke of slavery.
- 2Listen carefully—I, Paul, am telling you that if you get circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you.
- 3Let me say it again to every man who gets circumcised: you are now obligated to obey every single part of the law.
- 4If you're trying to be made right with God through the law, you've cut yourselves off from Christ. You've fallen away from grace.
- 5For we, through the Spirit, wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
- 6For in Jesus Christ, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision matters; what matters is faith working through love.
- 7You were doing so well! Who got in your way and kept you from following the truth?
- 8Whatever convinced you to turn aside didn't come from the one who called you.
- 9A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
- 10I have confidence in you through the Lord that you will not think differently. But whoever is troubling you will face judgment, no matter who he is.
- 11Brothers, if I were still preaching that circumcision is necessary, why would anyone still persecute me? If that were my message, the cross wouldn't offend anyone.
- 12I wish the people who are upsetting you would go all the way and cut themselves off entirely!
- 13Brothers, you were called to freedom. But do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; instead, serve one another through love.
- 14For the entire law is fulfilled in one word, in this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
- 15But if you bite and devour each other, be careful that you do not destroy each other.
- 16So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not satisfy the desires of the flesh.
- 17For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so you cannot do what you want.
- 18But if the Spirit is leading you, you are not under the law.
- 19Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are these: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, and sensuality,
- 20idolatry, sorcery, hatred, conflict, jealousy, wrath, strife, division, heresies,
- 21envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and such like things. I warn you beforehand, as I have also warned you in the past, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
- 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,
- 23meekness, self-control: against such there is no law.
- 24Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its affections and lusts.
- 25Since we live by the Spirit, let's keep in step with the Spirit.
- 26Let's not seek vain glory, provoking one another and envying one another.
