- 1Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.
- 2The fear and dread of you will be upon every beast of the earth, every bird in the sky, every creature that moves on the ground, and all the fish in the sea; they are delivered into your hand.
- 3Every moving thing that lives will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green herb, I have given you all things.
- 4But you must not eat meat that has its blood still in it.
- 5I will require your lifeblood; I will require it from every animal and from every person. From each person's brother, I will require the life of a human being.
- 6Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed, for God made humanity in His own image.
- 7As for you, have many children and grow in number; spread out across the earth and fill it."
- 8Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him:
- 9As for me, look, I establish my covenant with you and with your seed after you.
- 10And with every living creature that is with you: the fowl, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you—from all that go out of the ark to every beast of the earth.
- 11I will establish my covenant with you: Never again will all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.
- 12And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, for all generations to come:
- 13I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
- 14Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,
- 15I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
- 16Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.
- 17So God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have made between me and all life on the earth."
- 18The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)
- 19These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the whole earth.
- 20Noah began to be a farmer and planted a vineyard.
- 21When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay naked inside his tent.
- 22Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside.
- 23But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father's naked body. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father naked.
- 24When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him,
- 25He said, "Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers."
- 26He also said, "Praise be to the LORD, the God of Shem! And Canaan shall be his servant."
- 27God will enlarge Japheth, and he will live in the tents of Shem; and Canaan will be his servant.
- 28After the flood, Noah lived 350 years.
- 29Noah lived a total of 950 years, and then he died.
