- 1Therefore we ought to pay even closer attention to the things we have heard, so that we do not at any time let them slip.
- 2After all, the message delivered through angels proved to be binding, and every violation and act of disobedience received the punishment it deserved.
- 3So how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was first spoken by the Lord and confirmed to us by those who heard him.
- 4God backed up their testimony with signs, wonders, all kinds of miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his own will.
- 5Now, God didn't put the coming world we're talking about under the authority of angels.
- 6But someone in a certain place testified, saying, "What is man, that you are mindful of him? Or the son of man, that you visit him?"
- 7You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor and set him over the works of your hands.
- 8You placed all things under his feet." When God put everything under him, he left nothing outside his control. Yet right now, we don't see everything under his control yet.
- 9But we do see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he could taste death for every man.
- 10For it was fitting for him, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
- 11For both the one who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all of one. That's why he is not ashamed to call them brothers,
- 12He says, "I will declare your name to my brothers. In the midst of the church, I will sing your praise."
- 13He also says, "I will put my trust in him." And again, "Here I am, together with the children God has given me."
- 14Since the children share in flesh and blood, he also himself took part in the same; so that through death he might destroy the one who holds the power of death, that is, the devil;
- 15and deliver those who were subject to bondage all their lives through fear of death.
- 16For truly, he did not take on the nature of angels, but he took on the seed of Abraham.
- 17Therefore, in all things, he had to be made like his brothers and sisters, so he could be a merciful and faithful high priest in matters related to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
- 18Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to aid those who are being tempted.
