- 3Then we will know, if we press on to know the LORD. His going forth is prepared like the morning. He will come to us like the rain, like the late and early rain upon the earth.
- 4O Ephraim, what shall I do with you? O Judah, what shall I do with you? Your goodness is like a morning cloud, and like the early dew, it vanishes.

- 6For I desire mercy, not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
- 7But they, like men, have broken the covenant. There, they have betrayed me.
- 8Gilead is a city full of people who do evil, and it is polluted with blood.
- 9Just as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder on the road by agreement, for they commit lewdness.
- 10I have seen a horrible thing in the house of Israel: there is the whoredom of Ephraim, and Israel is defiled.
- 11Also, O Judah, a harvest is appointed for you, when I restore the captivity of my people.
