- 2On that day, sing about her: 'A vineyard of red wine.'
- 3I, the LORD, am its keeper. I water it constantly. Night and day I guard it so that no one can harm it.
- 4I have no fury: who would set briers and thorns against me in battle? I would go through them and burn them together.
- 5Or let him take hold of my strength so that he may make peace with me; then he will make peace with me.
- 6He will cause the descendants of Jacob to take root; Israel will blossom and bloom, and fill the world with fruit.
- 7Has he struck them as he struck those who struck them? Or have they been killed like those who were killed by him?
- 8By measure, when it shoots forth, you will contend with it; he restrains his fierce wind on the day of the east wind.
- 9By this, then, Jacob's guilt will be purged, and this is all the fruit to take away his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altar like chalkstones broken to pieces, the groves and images will not stand up.
- 10Yet the fortified city will be desolate, and the dwelling place abandoned and left like a wilderness. There the calf will feed, and there he will lie down and consume its branches.
- 11When the branches dry out, they snap off, and women come to gather them for firewood. These are a people with no understanding, so the one who made them will show them no mercy, and the one who formed them will give them no favor.
- 12On that day, the LORD will thresh from the channel of the river to the stream of Egypt, and you, children of Israel, will be gathered one by one.
- 13On that day the great trumpet will be blown, and those who were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, will come and worship the LORD on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
