- 1Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
- 2He grew up before him like a tender plant, like a root out of dry ground. He had no form or beauty; when we saw him, there was nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
- 3He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, familiar with grief. We hid our faces from him; he was despised, and we did not value him.
- 4Yet he was the one carrying our griefs and bearing our sorrows. We assumed he was being punished — struck down by God and afflicted.
- 5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the punishment that brought us peace was upon him; and by his wounds we are healed.
- 6All of us, like sheep, have wandered off. Each of us has turned to go our own way. And the LORD laid on him the iniquity of us all.
- 7He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he never opened his mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughter, like a sheep silent before its shearers, he didn't say a word.
- 8He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who will declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken.
- 9And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
- 10Yet it pleased the LORD to crush him and cause him to suffer. When his soul is made an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and extend his days, and the pleasure of the LORD will prosper in his hand.
- 11He will see of the suffering of his soul and be satisfied. By his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, for he will bear their iniquities.
- 12Because of this, I will give him a place among the great, and he will share the spoils with the strong—because he poured out his soul to the point of death, was counted among the transgressors, bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
