- 1Wake up, wake up, Zion! Clothe yourself with strength! Put on your beautiful garments, Jerusalem, the holy city, for the uncircumcised and the unclean will never enter you again.
- 2Shake yourself from the dust; arise and sit down, Jerusalem. Loose yourself from the bands of your neck, captive daughter of Zion.
- 3For the LORD says, "You have sold yourselves for nothing, and you will be redeemed without money."
- 4For the Lord GOD says, 'Long ago my people went down to Egypt to live as foreigners, and the Assyrians oppressed them without cause.'
- 5So now, what do I find here? says the LORD. My people have been taken away for nothing. Those who rule over them make them howl, says the LORD, and my name is blasphemed continually every day.
- 6"But because of this, my people will know my name. On that day, they will know that I am the one who speaks — yes, it is I."
- 7How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news — who announces peace, who carries word of good things, who proclaims salvation, who tells Zion, "Your God reigns!"
- 8Your watchmen will lift up their voices; together they will sing, for they will see eye to eye when the LORD restores Zion.
- 9Burst into joyful singing together, you ruins of Jerusalem! The LORD has comforted his people — he has redeemed Jerusalem!
- 10The LORD has bared his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.
- 11Leave! Leave! Get out of there! Don't touch anything unclean! Come out from among her and be clean, you who carry the vessels of the LORD.
- 12But you won't have to leave in a panic or flee in a rush, because the LORD himself will go ahead of you, and the God of Israel will guard you from behind.
- 13Look — my servant will act with wisdom. He will be raised up, lifted high, and exalted to the highest place.
- 14Just as many were astonished at you—his face was so marred more than any man's, and his form more than the sons of men—
- 15so he will sprinkle many nations. Kings will stand speechless before him, because they will see what no one had told them, and they will think about what they had never heard.
