  1. 1The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the meek. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.
  2. 2To proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;
  3. 3To appoint to those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
  4. 4They will rebuild the ancient ruins, raise up the former desolations, and repair the cities that have been in ruins for many generations.
  5. 5Strangers will tend your flocks, and foreigners will work your fields and care for your vineyards.
  6. 6But you will be called the Priests of the LORD; men will call you the Ministers of our God. You will consume the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory you will boast.
  7. 7For your shame, you will receive double; and for confusion, they will rejoice in their portion. Therefore, in their land, they will possess double, and everlasting joy will be theirs.
  8. 8For I, the LORD, love justice and hate robbery for burnt offering. I will guide their work in truth and make an everlasting covenant with them.
  9. 9Their seed will be recognized among the nations, and their offspring among the people. Everyone who sees them will acknowledge that they are the seed which the LORD has blessed.
  10. 10I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God, because he has clothed me with the garments of salvation and covered me with the robe of righteousness, like a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and like a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
  11. 11Just as the earth pushes up new growth, and a garden makes its seeds sprout, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before every nation.
