  1. 1"Who is this coming from Edom, marching from Bozrah with clothes stained crimson? Who is this, magnificent in his clothing, striding forward with tremendous power?" "It is I, the one who speaks in righteousness — mighty to save."
  2. 2"Why are your clothes so red, like someone who has been stomping grapes in a winepress?"
  3. 3I have trampled the winepress alone, and of the people there was none with me. For I will tread them in my anger and trample them in my fury; their blood will be sprinkled on my garments, and I will stain all my clothing.
  4. 4For the day of vengeance is in my heart, and the year of my redeemed has come.
  5. 5"I looked around, but no one came to help. I was stunned that no one stepped up to support me. So my own arm brought salvation, and my own fury drove me forward."
  6. 6I trampled the nations in my anger and made them stagger in my fury, and I brought down their strength to the ground.
  7. 7I will speak of the lovingkindnesses of the LORD and sing his praises for all that the LORD has given us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he has given them according to his mercies and the abundance of his lovingkindnesses.
  8. 8He said, "Surely they are my people, children who will not lie." So he became their Savior.
  9. 9In all their affliction, he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and pity, he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
  10. 10But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned against them and became their enemy — he himself fought against them.
  11. 11Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, 'Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? Where is he who put his Holy Spirit within him?'
  12. 12Who led them by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them to make himself an everlasting name?
  13. 13Who led them through the deep, like a horse in the wilderness, so they would not stumble?
  14. 14Like cattle going down into a valley to find rest, the Spirit of the LORD gave them peace. That is how you led your people, making for yourself a glorious name.
  15. 15Look down from heaven and see from your holy and glorious dwelling: where is your zeal and your strength, the stirring of your heart and your mercies toward me? Are they restrained?
  16. 16Truly you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us. You, O LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer; your name is from everlasting.
  17. 17O LORD, why have you caused us to stray from your ways and hardened our hearts from fearing you? Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your inheritance.
  18. 18The people of your holiness have possessed it for only a short time: our adversaries have trampled your sanctuary.
  19. 19We have become like people you never ruled over — like people who were never called by your name.
