  1. 1Listen up, you rich people — weep and wail over the misery that's heading your way.
  2. 2Your wealth is rotting away, and your fine clothes are eaten by moths.
  3. 3Your gold and silver have corroded, and that corrosion will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire. You've been hoarding treasure in the last days.
  4. 4Look, the wages you withheld from the workers who harvested your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the laborers have reached the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
  5. 5You've lived in luxury on this earth and indulged yourselves. You've fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.
  6. 6You have condemned and killed the just, and he does not resist you.
  7. 7So be patient, brothers and sisters, until the Lord comes. Consider how a farmer waits for the precious harvest, patiently waiting for the early and late rains.
  8. 8You must be patient too. Strengthen your hearts, because the Lord's coming is near.
  9. 9Don't complain against each other, brothers and sisters, or you'll be judged. The Judge is already standing at the door.

  11. 11Look, we count them happy who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very compassionate and of tender mercy.
  12. 12Above all, brothers and sisters, don't swear oaths — not by heaven, not by earth, not by anything else. Simply let your "yes" mean yes and your "no" mean no, so that you don't fall under condemnation.
  13. 13Is anyone among you suffering? Pray. Is anyone feeling joyful? Sing praises.
  14. 14Is anyone among you sick? Call for the elders of the church, and have them pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord.
  15. 15And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up. If they have committed sins, they will be forgiven.
  16. 16Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
  17. 17Elijah was a human being just like us. He prayed intensely that it wouldn't rain, and no rain fell on the land for 3 years and 6 months.
  18. 18Then he prayed again, and the heavens poured out rain, and the earth produced its crops.
  19. 19Brothers and sisters, if one of you wanders away from the truth and someone brings that person back,
  20. 20understand this: whoever turns a sinner from their wrong path will save a soul from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
