- 1The LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting. He said,
- 2"Tell the people of Israel: When any of you brings an offering to the LORD, it must come from your livestock — either from your herds or your flocks.
- 3If someone's offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he must bring a male animal with no defects. He is to present it willingly at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting before the LORD.
- 4He must place his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him.
- 5He must slaughter the bull before the LORD. Then the priests, Aaron's sons, will collect the blood and splash it on all sides of the altar at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
- 6He must skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces.
- 7Aaron's sons, the priests, must build a fire on the altar and arrange wood on it.
- 8Then the priests, Aaron's sons, must arrange the pieces — including the head and the fat — on the wood burning on the altar.
- 9The person offering it must wash the internal organs and legs with water. Then the priest will burn the whole animal on the altar as a burnt offering, a fire offering with a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
- 10If someone's offering is a burnt offering from the flock — whether a sheep or a goat — he must bring a male with no defects.
- 11He must slaughter it on the north side of the altar before the LORD. Then the priests, Aaron's sons, will splash its blood on all sides of the altar.
- 12He must cut it into pieces, including the head and the fat, and the priest will arrange them on the wood burning on the altar.
- 13But he must wash the internal organs and the legs with water. The priest must bring it all and burn it on the altar. It is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, with a sweet aroma to the LORD.
- 14If someone's burnt offering to the LORD is a bird, he must bring either a turtledove or a young pigeon.
- 15The priest will bring it to the altar, twist off its head, and burn it on the altar. Its blood must be drained out against the side of the altar.
- 16He must remove the crop along with its feathers and throw them on the east side of the altar, where the ashes are placed.
- 17He must tear it open by its wings without pulling it completely apart. Then the priest will burn it on the altar, on the wood over the fire. It is a burnt offering — an offering made by fire, producing an aroma that pleases the LORD."
