- 1The LORD spoke to Moses and said,
- 2"Give these instructions to Aaron, his sons, and all the people of Israel. This is what the LORD has commanded:
- 3Any Israelite who slaughters a bull, a lamb, or a goat — whether inside the camp or outside it —
- 4and does not bring it to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting to offer it to the LORD in front of the LORD's tabernacle, blood will be charged to that person; he has shed blood, and that person will be cut off from his people.
- 5This command is so the Israelites bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, to the LORD at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, to the priest, and offer them as peace offerings to the LORD.
- 6The priest will then sprinkle the blood on the LORD's altar at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and burn the fat, producing an aroma that pleases the LORD.
- 7They must no longer offer their sacrifices to devils, after whom they have gone whoring. This will be a statute forever for them throughout their generations.
- 8"Tell them also: Any Israelite — or any foreigner living among you — who offers a burnt offering or any other sacrifice
- 9but does not bring it to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting to offer it to the LORD, that person must be cut off from his people.
- 10If any man from the house of Israel, or any foreigner living among you, eats any form of blood, I will set my face against that soul and cut him off from his people.
- 11For the life of a creature is in its blood. I have given it to you to use on the altar to make atonement for your souls. It is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.
- 12That is why I have told the people of Israel: No soul among you shall eat blood, and no foreigner living among you shall eat blood either.
- 13If any Israelite or foreigner living among you hunts and kills an animal or bird that is acceptable to eat, he must drain its blood and cover it with dirt.
- 14For the life of every creature is in its blood; the blood is its life. Therefore, I told the children of Israel: You shall not eat the blood of any creature, for the life of every creature is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off.
- 15Every soul that eats an animal that died on its own or was killed by wild animals — whether an Israelite or a foreigner — must wash his clothes, bathe in water, and remain unclean until evening. After that, he will be clean.
- 16But if he doesn't wash his clothes and bathe, he will bear the consequences of his sin."
