  1. 1These are the journeys of the children of Israel, who went out of the land of Egypt with their armies under the leadership of Moses and Aaron.
  2. 2Moses recorded their departures according to their journeys as the LORD commanded, and these are their journeys according to their departures.
  3. 3They left Rameses on the 15th day of the 1st month — the day after the Passover. The Israelites marched out boldly, right in front of all the Egyptians,
  4. 4who were busy burying every firstborn son the LORD had struck down. The LORD had also brought judgment on Egypt's gods.
  5. 5The Israelites left Rameses and set up camp at Succoth.
  6. 6They left Succoth and set up camp at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness.
  7. 7They left Etham and turned back toward Pihahiroth, which faces Baalzephon, and they set up camp near Migdol.
  8. 8They left Pihahiroth and crossed through the middle of the sea into the wilderness. After traveling 3 days through the wilderness of Etham, they set up camp at Marah.
  9. 9They left Marah and arrived at Elim, where there were 12 springs of water and 70 palm trees, and they set up camp there.
  10. 10They left Elim and set up camp by the Red Sea.
  11. 11They left the Red Sea and set up camp in the wilderness of Sin.
  12. 12They left the wilderness of Sin and set up camp at Dophkah.
  13. 13They left Dophkah and set up camp at Alush.
  14. 14They left Alush and set up camp at Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink.
  15. 15They left Rephidim and set up camp in the wilderness of Sinai.
  16. 16They left the wilderness of Sinai and set up camp at Kibrothhattaavah.
  17. 17They left Kibrothhattaavah and set up camp at Hazeroth.
  18. 18They left Hazeroth and set up camp at Rithmah.
  19. 19They left Rithmah and set up camp at Rimmonparez.

  37. 37They left Kadesh and set up camp at Mount Hor, on the border of Edom.
  38. 38At the LORD's command, Aaron the priest climbed Mount Hor, and he died there on the 1st day of the 5th month, in the 40th year after the Israelites had left Egypt.
  39. 39Aaron was 123 years old when he died on Mount Hor.
  40. 40The Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the southern part of Canaan, heard that the Israelites were coming.
  41. 41They left Mount Hor and set up camp at Zalmonah.
  42. 42They left Zalmonah and set up camp at Punon.
  43. 43They left Punon and set up camp at Oboth.
  44. 44They left Oboth and set up camp at Ijeabarim, on the border of Moab.
  45. 45They left Iim and set up camp at Dibongad.
  46. 46They left Dibongad and set up camp at Almondiblathaim.
  47. 47They left Almondiblathaim and set up camp in the mountains of Abarim, across from Nebo.
  48. 48They left the mountains of Abarim and set up camp on the plains of Moab, beside the Jordan River across from Jericho.
  49. 49Their camp along the Jordan stretched from Beth Jeshimoth all the way to Abel Shittim on the plains of Moab.
  50. 50There on the plains of Moab beside the Jordan across from Jericho, the LORD spoke to Moses:
  51. 51"Tell the Israelites: When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
  52. 52you must drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you, destroy all their pictures, destroy all their molten images, and completely tear down all their high places.
  53. 53Take possession of the land and settle in it, because I have given it to you as your own.
  54. 54Divide the land by casting lots among your clans. Give a larger portion to larger clans and a smaller portion to smaller ones. Whatever land the lot assigns to each person will be theirs. Distribute it according to your ancestral tribes.
  55. 55But if you don't drive out the people living in the land, whoever you allow to stay will become like pricks in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will constantly harass you in the land where you live.
  56. 56And what I planned to do to them, I will do to you instead."
