1. 1The LORD spoke to Moses and said,
2. 2Command the people of Israel, and tell them: When you enter the land of Canaan, this is the territory that will be given to you as your inheritance — the land of Canaan with its borders:
3. 3Your southern boundary will start at the wilderness of Zin, running along the border of Edom. On the east side, it will begin at the southern end of the Salt Sea.
4. 4And your border will turn from the south to the Ascent of Akrabbim, continue to Zin, and extend from the south to Kadeshbarnea, then proceed to Hazaraddar and continue to Azmon.
5. 5From Azmon, the border will curve toward the river of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea.
6. 6Your western border will simply be the coastline of the Great Sea. That is your boundary on the west.
7. 7For your northern border, mark a line from the Great Sea to Mount Hor.
8. 8From Mount Hor, trace the border to the entrance of Hamath, and from there it will continue on to Zedad.
9. 9Then the border will extend to Ziphron and end at Hazarenan. That is your northern boundary.
10. 10For your eastern border, draw a line from Hazarenan south to Shepham.
11. 11From Shepham, the border will go down to Riblah on the east side of Ain. It will continue downhill until it reaches the eastern shore of the Sea of Chinnereth.
12. 12From there, the border will follow the Jordan River south and end at the Salt Sea. These are the boundaries that surround your land on every side."
13. 13Moses then told the people of Israel, "This is the land you will receive by casting lots, which the LORD has commanded to be given to the 9 tribes and the half-tribe.
14. 14The tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have already received their inheritance, divided by their family clans.
15. 15These 2 and a half tribes received their land on the east side of the Jordan River, across from Jericho, toward the sunrise."
16. 16The LORD spoke to Moses and said,
17. 17"These are the men who will divide the land among you: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.
18. 18You must also appoint one leader from each tribe to help distribute the land.
19. 19Here are their names: From the tribe of Judah — Caleb son of Jephunneh.
20. 20From the tribe of Simeon — Shemuel son of Ammihud.
21. 21From the tribe of Benjamin — Elidad son of Chislon.
22. 22From the tribe of Dan — the leader Bukki son of Jogli.
23. 23From the descendants of Joseph: for the tribe of Manasseh — the leader Hanniel son of Ephod.
24. 24From the tribe of Ephraim — the leader Kemuel son of Shiphtan.
25. 25From the tribe of Zebulun — the leader Elizaphan son of Parnach.
26. 26From the tribe of Issachar — the leader Paltiel son of Azzan.
27. 27From the tribe of Asher — the leader Ahihud son of Shelomi.
28. 28From the tribe of Naphtali — the leader Pedahel son of Ammihud."
29. 29These were the men the LORD appointed to divide the inheritance among the people of Israel in the land of Canaan.
