  1. 1Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
  2. 2He seized the dragon — that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan — and bound him for 1,000 years.
  3. 3The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, locked it, and sealed it shut over him so he could no longer deceive the nations until the 1,000 years were over. After that, he must be released for a short time.
  4. 4Then I saw thrones, and those seated on them were given authority to judge. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for the word of God — people who had refused to worship the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for 1,000 years.
  5. 5The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the 1,000 years were over. This is the first resurrection.
  6. 6Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them. They will serve as priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for 1,000 years.
  7. 7When the 1,000 years are over, Satan will be released from his prison.
  8. 8He will go out to deceive the nations across the four corners of the earth — Gog and Magog — rallying them for war. Their number will be like the sand on the seashore.
  9. 9They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. Then fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.
  10. 10The Devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet already were. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
  11. 11Then I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. Earth and heaven fled from his presence, and there was no place left for them.
  12. 12I saw the dead, both small and great, standing before God. The books were opened, and another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what was written in the books, according to their works.
  13. 13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and hell gave up the dead that were in them. Every man was judged according to their works.
  14. 14Then death and hell themselves were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
  15. 15Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
